In order to be a greater resource for writers, genrechallenge.org is now soliciting essays on writing. Every writer has his or her own approach to writing. For someone who's struggling, it's often beneficial to hear the perspectives of other writers and the techniques they employ. Share your thoughts. We're looking for original submissions on the following topics: Grammar Style Plot development / Character development Common mistakes Motivational techniques Writing in a particular genre The editing process How to get published Personal thoughts / experiences with writing The essays will be handled similarly to the monthly story submissions, with a couple of key differences: - There is no one-month limit for writing an essay submission, nor do you have to write on a specific topic during a specific month. Take as much or as little time as you need. - The minimum word count is only 500 words. There is no maximum word count, but remember, we're looking for essays, not dissertations. All essay submissions must be original - that is, written specifically for Genre Challenge. Essay submissions should be posted on the Livejournal community. If you're not on LJ you can post the story anywhere online and email GC with a link. The essays will all be linked on GC. As with the stories, you maintain ownership of the essays even though they'll be linked here. Also, eventually we may collect the essays into an anthology like the stories, so when you submit your essay please indicate whether you give permission for it to be included in the anthology. Essay submissions should have a Header that looks like this: Title: Stoking the Fires - How To Get Pumped Up To Write Topic: Motivational Techniques Word Count: 24601 Inclusion in Anthology (Y/N)?: Y Preferred Author Name to be Used in Anthology: Metafrantic Try to keep your essays focused on a specific topic. If there's more than one topic you want to write about, consider writing two separate essays. Please consider lending your own particular knowledge and skill to help other writers improve their own work! |
